Scott and Paul are both right. The days are gone when HTML email was a
kludgy hack that was unacceptable to an email professional. Done right, HTML
is perfectly fine for most uses.

By "noodles," I assume Paul meant using HTML on the Entourage list would
cause no problems, since one could be reasonably certain everyone was using
Entourage to send and receive the mail. Not all email programs are as
thoughtful as Entourage when it comes to providing plain text alternatives;
certain programs which shall remain nameless not only ENFORCE their use of
HTML, but add binary attachments, as well!

As a listowner who mandates plain text, I can tell you that it's a wild and
wacky world out there. When you have some expectation that everyone is using
a capable and well behaved program, it's one thing, but letting any old
email program pass any old HTML code through your mail server is a very bad
idea. Badly coded emails can wreak havoc on a digest, for instance.

Scott's complaint that HTML emails get really confusing with multiple quote
levels has merit, but the same can be said for plain text. Why can't people
learn to EDIT OUT unnecessary quoted material from their replies?
