That's what I had thought - Allen's comment suggested I could do it in Preview pane, since that was my problem area - I did try Message -> Edit Message and then "rewrap" in the Preview pane, but it still had the ragged lines. I guess the solution is to make the message window at least 80 characters wide in 3 column view.
