Thank you.  I've checked on the corresponsdence between the preview date and
the actual date.  The problem really seems to be that the messages move.
For example, yesterday a group of messages from June suddenly appeared at
the top of the list, followed by that day's mail.

Sometimes another folder behaves as though it is following the rule "place
read before unread."  If I click on a message 7 messages from the top it can
jump up to the top; this doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen
sometimes.  I haven't put any such rule in place.

Perhaps I have a badly bugged/corrupted version of the program???
