It's not the resolution, really, it's the screen width (or lack thereof), although I guess they're related. I couldn't cope with plain text messages in 3-column view on my former 12"-iBook either. The preview pane was never wide enough for the hard-wrapped lines, and they'd always break in the middle, then break again at the ends - impossible to read. There's enough room for comfort on my new 15" PowerBook with high resolution and Entourage opened almost full width, so I've forgotten all about the issue now.
