Hmmm. I do the same thing but I see the folder indicate an unread message
immediately.

I'm less sure about this because my Macintosh is also my mail server so
needless to say, there's not a lot of delay accessing the server. But I
think the messages are there immediately and except on rare occasions, there
no new mail sound when I go to the destination folder.
