Agreed, it has become better, but there are still enough problems to
make me prefer Apple's Mail (I last tried Entourage a couple of weeks
ago).

I think Entourage is by far the most appealing mail application, but
it is also full of strange behaviour, especially regarding IMAP.
I encourage you to try Entourage again. The many recent updates
have greatly
improved IMAP behavior. The progress seen in just the last year is
pretty
dramatic. I used to get calls on a daily basis from people who were
'missing' emails or had 'lost' folders out of their IMAP accounts.
Those
sorts of calls have dwindled to a trickle. While I previously always
suspected Entourage's flakiness first I now often suspect my mail
server
first.
