As an update, I turned off "Perform Database Integrity Check in the
Background" when this fix was brought to everyone's attention here about 8
days ago, and had no further freezes. Today, I turned it back on, just to be
on the safe side and let it do its thing for awhile and, lo and behold,
about 10 min. after doing so Entourage froze for several min. I assume that
was precisely when it ran through its database checking routine. As soon as
Entourage came back to life, I assumed that indicated that database checking
was done so I turned "Perform Database Integrity Check in the Background"
off again and no further freezes since (so far).

Cheers,
George A.
