Just to be clear, I did say that the freezes I experienced occurred only
during message retrieval, i.e., not sporadically, and that deleting stored
emails did not fix my problem. I did not mention it again in my recent post,
but about a month ago, I posted that turning off auto-check didn't help
either. 

Obviously, there are different kinds freezing problems with different fixes.
Hence my parenthetical subject tag.
