I guess I don't have my message "open" -- there's no Edit icon in my toolbar. To the left of Print are Flag, Forward, Reply All, Reply, and New, in order moving away from Print. I use the three-pane system so I can scroll through messages and read then without moving my hands from the keyboard (obviously that only works for the ones that aren't longer than the pane will display).
