George, Great questions. Just like on the Forest floor, young trees are somewhat protected from fun sun exposure. I put mine in a partial sun area. I usually let them grow in the box for a couple of months then transplant them into pot or in ground. Making a tree bedding area in a more sunny area is the best. Let them grow in that for a year of two before final planting. All this transplanting does not hurt the tree, it may slow down the growth just a little during the final planting. I have trees over 15' tall all over the place grown this way. The new moon is best time to transplant 3 days around that moon. I do use the same soil mixture during transplanting. Once the tree is a year or two old I fertilize them moderately with 13-13-13, only when they are in the ground permanently. I usually give most of the trees I grow away,so someone besides me can enjoy them. Larry
