George, I just push the seeds, acorns, nuts, lightly in the soil 1/3 under, then cover with leaf material. Screening the box from animals, leaving them to go through the winter cold period until spring sprouting. Then transpIant them wherever, I really feel that just about any rich soil with grow them fine. Think about how they generate on the Forest floor. Hope this helps, you.
