Larry & Scott,

I would also like to collect seed from local sources. There are two 17'+ x
100'+ sycamores within the township. Have either of you tried planting any
sycamores or anything like their seeds? Should I lightly press the tiny
nutlets into the soil or just sprinkle them on the ground? The soil we
purchase is a mix of topsoil, compost, and sand. Would it be okay for the
tree box and potting? Once I transplant the seedlings into pots I would
like to put the pots in the ground for two or three years until I can plant
them in one of the parks. Scott, where could I purchase some of the
Rootmaker pots and what size should they be if the trees are going to be in
them for several years? I know I have a lot of questions. I'm trying to
get some kind of tree program going and have an annual budget. Last year we
planted 250 seedlings in a preserve and 75 2"-2.5" caliper trees through a
grant for a stream bank restoration project.

Scott, No problem. I plan to come to Cook Forest sometime in the
future. I'll bring you some, a Live Oak also, and whatever else you
might want from down south. Look forward to the photos. Larry
