Eli,

I think you put your finger solidly on the key point: "I certainly don't look
at a lack of chatter as a lack of interest from the numerous members here."
Many folks on the list lead very busy lives and for them minutes are precious.
They read, but don't have time to respond. By contrast, retired old fossils
like myself now have the time to dance around the countryside with camera and
iPhone in hand (Wait!. They're the same) and snap photos and send detailed
emails. Others like Barry and Larry take the extra time and make the
contribution because they are driven to do so. Forests and trees are
fundamental to their sense of well-being and they want to share. We're all
fulfilling a personal need in being in ENTS. I think the trees are
appreciative.
I will end by saying that some of us in ENTS involved in forest research and
documentation may appear stuck on big and/or tall trees - and we are. Will said
it best. We have chosen to document those big boys and girls because they are
the most likely to be lost through commercial ventures. But the stories of
places with smaller trees, but exceptional ecological value, such as Barry's
Pine Barrens are every bit as important, and many will think more so. Please
keep up the reports and the sharing.

Though I rarely post on ENTS I do enjoy many of the varied posts from other
members. My focus on trees has mainly been in the metro-Atlanta area, though I
love hearing about interesting trees from all over. Many posts seem to be heavy
on PA forests and other areas which just reflects the membership I think. I
really enjoy the detailed trip reports like those of Will Blozan's. I have
posted some recent questions and though I did not receive a ton of feedback, I
did get some very useful replies very quickly. I certainly don't look at a lack
of chatter as a lack of interest from the numerous members here.

I hardly ever get to respond to much of the chatter on here. Partly
because I work 11-12 hours a day. I usually check ENTS once in the
morning before my work gets nuts. I am sure there are alot of people
here with a similar situation. That said, once winter hits, my slow
season, I usually reply more and put up more posts. I enjoy the Pine
Barrens articles. Keep it up.
