Larry and others

I have been to the Wade tract several times and it is very fascinating
particularly if you can get Leon Neel to accompany and explain the
management of the tract. Some of the trees are in excess of 200 - 300
years old, however you will not see pines the diameter and height you
see with the Lob's at Congaree. The whole area around Thomasville is
rather scenic as much of it is in old plantations regularly managed
for bird hunting and Thomasville is a delightful old turn of the
century resort town before Florida developed. If is a lot different
than southeast GA where I am in that is is rather hilly country, not
at all what you would expect in the coastal plain. They call the area
the Tallahassee Red Hills.

There are other opportunities in the area including Ichauway
Plantation, about 25,000 acres south of Albany dedicated to ecological
research. http://www.jonesctr.org/about_us/history_and_development.html

If you are serious about a meeting I would suggest you consider
working with the Longleaf Alliance http://www.longleafalliance.org/
which is at the forefront of longleaf research. They have some
excellent programs on the species.
