Tom, I have always like sassafras trees and am happy when I find them in the woods. I need to get Dale to show me the big one up in Erie County, PA. When they are tiny sprout, likely because of growth hormones, the can have more than three fingers. When I was a kid I would collect them and have found as many as nine fingers on individual leaves. This fall they were a deep yellow with some tinges of orange and red. Neat trees.
