Will,

This morning, it was 4 degrees at the house here. Freaking cold - for me
anyway. The temperature at Berlin, NH is -3 F. Embarrass, MN is -9 F. Tower is
-15 F., but Lee will be relieved to know that Stanley, ID is up to 20 F. The
extremely cold air that had gripped the West seems to now be concentrated in
the upper Mid-west (where it belongs). Lee can have it.

I plan to track the lows for a number of stations starting in January, just for
the heck of it, but also to give me a better feel for the temperature patterns
in places of interest. Where do you find the climate data for the top of
Leconte?

Lee,

I think winter is starting for real in Embarrass and Tower.
Tower is currently -11F. By comparison, Pinedale, WY is -4F, West
Yellowstone, MT is -3F.Stanley, ID is -4F. Several other traditional
cold spots are aroind 0 or slightly above. However, Big Piney,WY is a
bone chilling -28F. It's hard to understand where that cold air is
coming from.
