It may be true or not. Canon didn't add any contact to the lensmount
when they make the first USM lens in 1989, or the first IS lens.
Neither Canon nor Nikon added contacts to the flash hot shoe when
Canon upgraded from TTL to ATTL or ETTL, or Nikon from 2D flash or
ambient to 3D.
But Nikon added 5 pins to the AF-S lenses, and also to the VR,
but for the moment both features aren't on the same lens.
Who knows if the 10 pins are enough for both features.
