The 100-300 USM is a true ring USM, which means full time manual focus
and an non rotating front element, The 75-100 USM is a micromotor USM,
meaning that it has a rotating front element. The build quality of the
100-300 is superior the that of the 75-300, also. I rented a 100-300
last weekend, and was very satisfied with the results.
