3.6 lbs. is heavy for a Carbon Fiber. Check out the Slik Pro 804CF tripod,
it weighs only 2.6 lbs, same as the Gitzo Mountaineer Mk II.
Then add a Velbon PH-263 magnesium ballhead which is 3.8 inches high,
and weighs only 9.6 ounces. This head is lighter than the Gitzo heads
and very well made. Total weight for the combo is less than your Bogen 3444
alone.

I'd have to agree with Peter K. The Bogen / Manfrotto carbon fiber tripods
are not the best value nor light. Their leg locks are also extremely
difficult at least when new to open. An elderly friend of mine with some
arthritis in hands could not open the Bogen leg locks but could the Velbon,
Slik and had trouble with the tiny Gitzo collars.
The Bogen carbon fiber tripod is pretty much as heavy as my all metal Slik
Grand Master Sport Black and the same size, but the Slik is 1/4 the cost of
the Carbon One. The Bogen carbon fibers' IMO are a rip off and are
unfortunately getting people to buy them basically because of the words
Carbon Fiber. As Peter suggests, the Velbon and Slik are lighter and better
value over the Manfrotto or Gitzo. After participating in a test for Photo
Life magazine, I opted to keep my metal Slik GMSB and save tons of money
over saving just a little bit of weight. My choice and our findings for
lightest would have been the Slik 804CF overall, but it isn't cheap either.
For shooting with long Canon telephotos, be careful about going too light.
You need solid sticks to reduce vibration, not just MLU.
Good luck,
