Well he's talking about stopping it down when using it with the
teleconverter so you're no longer talking about a 400, but a 560 and an
800mm lens equivalent that should be able to autofocus with my EOS cameras
since at worst at wide open it would be an 5.6 with the 2x. Teleconverters
are always going to soften the image to some extent. I would assume that
the 600/4 prime would be sharper than the 400/2.8 with a 1.4x when it's
wide open.
