Hello all -

I have shot with an FT QL for years, and recently had it, along with
my FD 50mm f/1.2, 28mm f/2.0 and 135mm f/2.5 SC stolen in a burglary.
Insurance company wanted to replace with a Rebel 2000, but I opted for
an EOS 33 Elan 7, and paid $100 for the upgrade. Came with the new
28-90 4-5.6 and I had them send me a 75-300 4-5.6 USM II, too.

Obviously I am new to this level of automation, but after reading all
the bad reviews of the 75-300, I was less disappointed than I thought
I'd be with my first efforts, particularly in the 75-135 range. I'm a
little more frustrated with the 28-90, but I realize I have tons to
learn about the system, and how to compensate properly.

That being said, I know that I will want to upgrade my lenses as
finances permit. I'm looking at a lot of options, and since besides
family portraits I like to do close-up work as well as nature
photography, I'm considering the 50mm f/2.5 Macro as a prime lens, and
debating between that and the 50mm f/1.4 USM. I would also probably
add the 100mm Macro to my kit.

Another option seems to go with the 28-70 f2.8L zoom, that people seem
to be saying compares with a prime lens. Add the 70-200 f2.8L later.

I'm leaving a true nature long lens out of the thinking right now,
because I just don't think I will be able to afford it soon, but I'd
be interested to hear any thoughts on the above.

TIA
