EOS Tele Converter for 28-135 IS Zoom (ouch?).

Merry Christmas!

I would like to buy a Canon 300mm F/4L IS Lens, but can't afford it right now.

What would happen to resolution if I added a 2X Tele Converter to my 28-135 
IS Zoom to get 270mm with it?

Would resolution at 270mm be even lower than with the Canon regular 100-300 
or 75-300 lenses?

Any brands and/or models of Tele Converters in particular?

Or maybe I should buy a Canon 100-300 f/5.6L at the current price it's 
selling, which seems a good deal, but I like IS Lenses...
