Hi George

For me, it most certainly would be the 35 f2. I have
3 primes (35, 50 1.4 and 85 1.8) as well as zooms, but
the one (prime) lens I'm happy to put on a camera body
as an light and compact standalone unit is the 35.

Ok, it doesn't have USM and 35mm is the "forgotten"
focal length these days, but as an all-rounder for me
it's hard to beat. It seems to me to be more of a
"normal" angle of view than a 50mm and I find it
generally more useful.

Sure I've wished I had a shorter/longer lens, but then
I've been in that same postion with a zoom lens
anyway, the prime just makes you think about it a bit
harder. There are some shots you just won't get, but
because of the reasonably fast aperture there are
others you will get.

If I had more money (lots more money) I'd probably
nominate the 35 f1.4, but I guess until I'm in that
enviable position, I'll stick with what I've got.

Regards
Gary
