I am amazed at the number of non-USM, meaning no full-time-manual-focus
lenses, chosen as "one prime lens".  I am especially surprised at how
many have chosen non-USM lenses in the wide angle range.  I find
full-time-manual-focus indispensable with any lens, and especially
important in wide angle lenses, to optimize DOF where I want it.  And
don't tell me about DEP mode.  It's to tedious.

For me, my one prime choice is also an easy one.  I've often gone out
and only used the 500 f/4 IS.   And its made me a better person . . . .
well stronger anyway.
