Hi Jaako,

Great question! You brought up a number of interesting points, that I found
very familiar when trying to decide upon the EOS 30~Elan 7E

For focus tracking ability, the EOS 1v blurb reads:
http://www.canon.com/eos/af_tech.html
"... the EOS-1V can pursue, focus and continually shoot an approaching subject
at speeds of up to 50 km/h (31mph) to a point 8 m (26 ft) ahead of the camera
(assuming use of an EF 300 mm f/2.8L IS USM lens)."

while the Elan 7E blurb says- from the brochure, or at this retail site:
http://www.normancamera.com/Assets/product/demos/canelan7e.asp
"... It can track a subject moving at 186 MPH until it's just 66 feet from the
camera using an EF 300mm f/2.8L IS lens ..."

OK, so 186 mph=300 km/h and 66 feet=20 meters, but other than the metric, is
there a mathematical formula that can help compare these two statements
(and hence the two cameras)?

Were there similar claims made for other cameras (Canon or otherwise)?

Cheers
Julian Loke
P.S. I don't have the EF 300mm f/2.8L. I figured my f/5.6 zooms would
behave better on an Elan 7E than an EOS 3 or EOS 1v
