Oh yes indeed Julian.  The proof is in the pudding and that confection is
called "the resulting image", with whatever system was responsible.  I
considered changing over to Nikon as a matter of fact a while back, the
impetus being (what I thought were) great bodies, nice optics, and that they
had just announced the 80-400 VR.  Well, clearly they did *announce* the
80-400 over a year ago, but actually bringing it to market is another story.
In any case, my sense of the "my camera is better than yours" thing is that
it's not really a worthwhile effort.  Two good systems and ones choice is
based upon personal preferences and where ones predisposition lies.  Mine is
with Canon so I was interested in Joe McDonald articulating his preferences
and his conclusions.  Thanks also for the heads-up on the Photo Safari site.

I see that John Shaw's insight into Image Stabilization is pretty much on
par with (fellow Nikonite) Galen Rowell's.
