The long answer is that the 28-135, 75-300 and 100-400IS are not
recommended for use on a tripod with the IS turned on. I've done it,
inadvertently, with no ill affects, but I guess the theory is that the
lack of movement may encourage the IS elements to create some of their
own. Of course, if you are in a high wind, or on a slightly unstable
platform, the IS may prove to be a help. The fixed focal length IS
lenses, 300 2.8 and 5.6, 400, 500 and 600 are all tripod compatible, I
think.
