What does he mean by "The IS system will not work with the camera
mounted to a tripod?"

_______________________________________________________________________

The statement was
"...And remember, the IS system will not work with the camera mounted to a
tripod - turn off the stabilizer before shooting!"

This is what the early manuals read and it is pure BS. I have used IS lenses
(300mm F2.8 and 600mm F4 IS) with IS on and mounted on a tripod and monopod.
John is quoting from Canon's poor PR. He is also an avid Nikon user and
supported in part by Nikon so it would not be approriate to speak well of a
competitors product.
