Hello folks,
After spending an hour last Sunday crawling around in
the snow, I have been looking for a way to make low
and odd-angle macro shooting with my Elan 7e easier.
It seems like one way would be to get a right-angle
eyepiece adapter.
Canon has two models, the Angle Finder B and C. The B
looks like an older design meant for manual-focus
Canons, but supposedly you can buy an adapter for EOS
cameras. The C looks like a nicer unit, with a
built-in magnifier, but costs about 80 percent more
than an Angle Finder B plus EOS adapter (going by B&H
prices).
So I have some questions:
1) Will these finders work on an Elan 7e? (maintaining
ECF function is not important). This is my first
Canon camera ... can I assume the 7e uses the same
standard eyepiece size as the Elan II, EOS 3, etc.?
2) When the Angle Finder C is set to the low
magnification setting (1.25x), is the full viewfinder
visible, including LCD readouts?
3) Can the Angle Finder C swivel? (I believe the B
can). I think for my application this will be
important.
4) Subjective opinions - how useful have you found
these accessories to be for macro shooting. Is the
display bright and sharp for critical focusing and
framing? Is the image reversed (supposedly the B
doesn't reverse the image, but I don't know about the
C)
5) Are there any compatible third-party units I should
consider?
I'm leaning towards the C model, mainly because of the
magnifier, but if the C doesn't swivel I think I would
have to go with the B.
Thanks,
Paul Secinaro
