    I've also noticed at least space for two shots at the beginning of the
film, where there's no exposure. I guess Canon in their wisdom decided to
play it safe and not try and get extra shots from a roll. Due to the
possible light leakage when loaded in bright light, this area could be
fogged. It's also interesting that my first shot always lines up with the
number 1 on the film. Why they put a number 0 on it is something else...
    I don't think it's worth it trying for extra shots, in fact there's no
way I can think of to do so other than taking a chance of breaking
something.( like manually rewinded a bit in the dark)
    We'll have to try and get a better deal on film if cost is the factor.
Personally, I take a lot of films out around the 17-23 mark. I only pay for
the photos that are printed, so I save money this way.
