Not necessarily. You can orient them not only along 
the optical axis.

The dfinity is basically a Foveon. And that is not bigger 
than a regular EOS-1V. The chunky part is the laptop used
as viewfinder and control tool.

Once they integrate that into a body, it will not neccessarily 
bloat the body too much.
