Neat, this is the direct link to Canon's original patent.  Look at all the 
patents that reference it, from Nikon, Minolta, etc. Go Canon!

ps. I'm not an IP lawyer or even pretend to be one, but Nikon's and 
Minolta's patents seem to describe the exact same type of system. Odd how 
the patent office still granted them.
