It depends on what you want from it.

If it's convenience, go for the modern 100-300 USM.

If it's for picture quality at the long end, go for the antique (but quite 
good) 100-300 f/5.6L

I almost bought the 100-300 f/5.6L (at the current price, it's a deal, in 
my opinion) but have decided to go for the 100-400 IS Zoom instead, for the 
long run.
