Ah

there's an idea for a new custom function ... one that makes the
camera treat every lens you fit as f 2.8 and thus lets it at least
*try* to autofocus  ;o)

Unless you are trying to use an independent lightmeter (or even just
Sunny 16) the real value is irrelevant for TTL exposure.
