And then you need to consider frame-to-frame variations. Also, I've seen some
tests of consumer-level lenses that show the nominal maximum aperture is often
optimistic, so that a lens with a stated maximum aperture of f/3.5 might have a
true maximum aperture closer to f/4. Of course, as long as you use some form of
autoexposure, this is largely inconsequential since the AE will set exposure
based on the light getting through to the film, not on what the nominal maximum
aperture is.
