Hi Gary,
Before giving up on your very capable Sunpak 383, use ISO 400
film and set your EOS camera in M mode (e.g. 1/60s, f/8).
Bounce the flash if possible.
Alternatively, use the Elan/EOS 100 in M mode with pop-up
flash and an accessory optical trigger to slave the 383 in a
two-flash setup.
