Check your hotshoe. It contains two tiny metal strips (left and right) to
detect if an external flash is mounted. My guess is that these metal strips
are still pressed down, causing the camera to think an external flash is in
use.
It might work to release them with a needle or something (carefully!)... if
that doesn't help or when the problems keeps occurring, a trip to the
service center might be necessary after all.
