Hi Chuck!

Some time ago a friend of mine had the same problem. One of the pins in the 
hotshoe didn't come back up. That's how camera knows it has external flash 
attached. We tried to get it up but had no luck, so it ended up at service 
facility. Annoying thing about it is that the whole body has to be 
disassembled. But then again they noticed that capacitor was bad (or was it 
some chip???) and changed it and also recalibrated the camera.
If my memory serves me well cost was in the region of 70-80$.
The quote for getting the pin out was something like 25$.
