For maximizing DOF from cheap to expensive:

  * Lots of trial and error
  * Calculate hyperfocal distance (see other posts)
  * Use faster film == smaller aperture == more DOF
  * Build a pin-hole camera (joke)
  * Buy a split-field macro filter (Cokin has them)
  * Buy a tilt-shift 24mm EF lens (Henry will sell you one)
  * Buy a large format field camera (Henry will gladly sell you one)
