Actually not a joke, pinhole can be fun...
you can find loads of info here : http://www.photo.net/photo/pinhole/pinhole
(including the formulae to calculate the right diameter for the hole).
A dumb guide to make your own EOS Pinhole:
Take the plastic cover of the camera mount and drill a hole in the center:
size doesn't matter make it arround 5 mm so you can have some room for
centering.
Then you need a little piece of metal (brass, aluminium) of about 10x10mm
The critical piece here is the pinhole . "Good" sizes are about the 0.25-0.28mm
if you're going to mount the cover directly on the camera. That makes the
w-hole thing *very* hard. The smallest drill that mounts on a dremel is about
0.5mm in diameter. You can also try using a needle, but that implies that you
have to use a soft metal and the hole won't be perfectly round.
Best thing to do is to buy one already done (I didn't :-). I believe they are
made with lasers, so the hole is quite perfect.
Now you have to center the hole on the very center of the plastic cover. The
piece of metal will cover the excess of hole you did on the plastic. Be sure
that you're aligning the hole on the metal piece with the center of the cover.
That can be a bit difficult.
You can use any hobbie glue (like UHU) as its solvent will attack (bite) the
plastic a bit and make a light-tight join.
Now you can start having some fun. Be aware that exposures are going to be long
and the meter in your camera won't be very realiable.
You can even mount your newly created pinhole on some extension tubes for
tele-pinhole, but you have to modify the tube so the camera won't lock the
mirror and refuse to expose (typical 'reaction' when mounting a extension tube
or a teleconverter without a lens)
Have fun!!!
Greetings,
Gerard.
PS: Thanks for the tips on buying 2nd hand "over here".
PS2: Marc, thanks for the publicity :-) ;-) ;-) ;-)
