Dan Honemann:
Please keep us posted as to your impressions of these L zooms. I am
also a Leica M user considering getting into the EOS system (still on
the fence between it and Leica R), so I'd be most interested to hear
how the Canon glass works for you.
I also find it very hard to believe that the 70-200/2.8L at 135 could
match the latest 135 apo M lens stop for stop (though it may be the
equal of the later 135 elmarit). Still, the convenience of having
the zoom would make up for some loss in corner resolution and
contrast.
I'd also be interested in hearing how the L glass handles the out of
focus areas (bokeh).
Thanks,
Dan

Dan,
I havebeen where you are and can tell you that after going through and
comparing lenses the Leica mystique vanishes quickly. Yes, it was very
difficult to believe that a less expensive lens would work as well and
in some case better, but nonetheless the Canon glass is excellent.
While Leica afficionados and especially zealous collectors will never
admit a Japanese company can produce a comparable lens to the heavily
worshipped Summilux, fact is that Canon does.
BTW, the R8 is a nice camera but I have had reliability problems,
(R does not stand for Reliable). I have known several pros who
bought into the Leica worshipping and bought R bodies only
to wind up converting to Canon. For what its worth don't waste your
money.
