I can't compare the glass, but I had the opportunity to play around with
a R8 a little at a local camera fair some time ago. I have to say, I was
not overly impressed. While the camera seemed very solid and of high
build quality, its ergonomics could use some improvement. I'm really
puzzled how someone would hold this brick in his hands with a heavy lens
attached. Apparently, there is no such thing as a real grip, which would
allow the user to get a good hold of it. I almost feared I might drop
it!

Ok, a lot of older camera models are like that and generations of
photographers managed to work well with them. I'm probably spoiled by my
EOSes, especially the EOS 5 with VG 10 and the 1N with its booster. With
the 1N and e.g. a 200/2.8, I can comfortably carry it around with three
fingers of my right hand just suporting the grip, no need to really hold
it. With the R8, I would either have to hold the lens or use both hands.
With one hand, I would be tired quickly.

All I can add to this topic is, that my 200/2.8 has a very nice bokeh
IMHO. The 80-200/2.8 L, which is the predecessor of the70-200/2.8 Ian
Stanley is testing right now, is not as smooth as the prime. The 50/1.4
and 85/1.8 are also quite good at that (bokeh) IMHO, also the 28-70/2.8
L.
