Hiya,
Whilst I'm not a sports photographer, I do have experience of the Sigma EX
1.4x
teleconverter.
As far as I'm concerned, it's approaching the quality of the Canon
teleconverter
for about 1/2 the cost.
Just like the Canon teleconverters, it too has a protruding front element &
therefore will only work with some lenses - including the 300 f4 L.
