Anyone else on the list have experience using a TC for sports photography?
I bought a second-hand Canon 300mm f/4L (not the IS) a couple of months ago,
and I am thrilled with the results (previously, I had been shooting with the
Canon 75-300mm zoom f/4.0-5.6). But I am greedy and want to get just a wee
bit closer, and I want a 1.4X TC. However, I do not want to spend $340-390
(or more) for the Canon TC. I have been getting conflicting advice about
the off-brands, mostly because the sports photogs I know all say to go with
the company that made the camera and prime lens, while just about everyone
else tells me the difference in quality of the off-brand will not be nearly
as great as the price difference (but they don't have the need for speed
that sports photogs do).
Any other sports photographers out there who have experience (good or bad)
with off-brand TCs?
