It is! I own two of the black 55's plus a 30 (7e).
Swapping from 55 to 30 and back is almost totally
painless as the control layouts are almost identical.
The 55's have a panorama feature (which I'll admit
I've never used), but have two lines etched on the
focusing screen showing the panorama area - they're
extremely useful for maintaining level horizons - I
actually miss them when I use the 30!
All 3 have battery packs, and I like the BP-300 more
than the BP-50, but I'd still swap them for a VG10
equivalent just to get a FULL control set (even
without batteries!!!).
I get quite a bit of interest and enquiries from
people about the 55's (much more so than the for the
30). Concensus seems to be "Why on earth didn't Canon
market the black body outside Japan". Seems they
fixed that with the 30 ;-)
Regards
Gary
