Hi Jim,

I used to own an Elan, which as you've pointed out is
the 100. It's quieter in most ways than the 55 -
except if using the built in flash. The 100's have a
built in zoom flash and it's pretty noisy when it
zooms in and out - the 55 has a fixed 28mm coverage,
so the flash is quieter.

The rest of the camera is *very* quiet though and very
similar in control layout to your 10. In addition, it
has the rear dial like the 55, which I personally
like, but the 100 has only 1 central (cross) AF point
and mine didn't focus as quickly/readily in low light
as the 55's do. I don't know if that's an issue for
you, but the 55's also have the 3 af points like your
10 does, with eye control if you wish to use it. The
55's control layout is somewhat different to the 10,
so from that point of view a 100 is a good match.

The 55's have e-ttl with EX flashes - the biggest
benefit this combo bring IMO though is high speed
flash sync - for outdoor fill it's great! You can
also fit the 55 with the BP-50 battery pack and use
AA's plus get a vertical shutter release/grip. Again
IMO very useful (looks great too).

Regards
Gary
