Pierre, Every time I make an exposure, I'm thinking a 13x19" print.
Satisfaction for one person can be different for another person. I feel
that if it's not tack sharp it's unusable to me. I scan my slides with
a high resolution scanner to ensure sharpness and clarity. On the other
hand if I were only using 4x6 prints, my satisfaction level would be
different.

To answer your question, it would not be satisfactory to me. I use the
100-440 also, but with no extenders. If I need above 400, I switch to a
500 f/4. I think if I did not have a 500, I would judge based on the
performance of my 1.4x. If you are satisfied with the 1.4x, chances are
you will like the new 2x-II. I would not even consider the old 2x.
Although my tests show the new 2x to be sharper than the old 2x, my
tests were made with the new 500 IS lens, a lens that the new 2x-II was
specifically designed for. I have not tested with the 100-400 because
I've never used that combination. I have a good friend who uses the new
300 f/2.8 IS and 600 f/4 IS lenses and he agrees the new 2x-II is
sharper. If I get a chance to test your combination I will e-mail you
with the results.

Still waiting for my new 70-200 f/2.8 IS DO Macro lens.
