I just don't understand how people can claim that gear
doesn't matter. If I would give an F-1 driver my small
and old car he would have no chance at all to get any
good result. He might handle the car perfectly but he
still wouldn't have a chance.
Or if I have a slow computer I can't get my work done
as good and fast as with a fast computer.
Finally, if I have a REALLY nice computer that offers
me more then I really need (speaker, big flat panel,
etc) it can increase my productivity.
The same applies for cameras. I used to have another
brand before Canon. I sure do enjoy working with my
Canon equipment much better. For me my Canon body is
more intuitive to handle, it lays better in my hands,
the lenses feel nicer etc. While it doesn't directly
improve image quality, composition, creativity etc it
is more suitable for my task and does make it more
enjoyable. So I do believe that camera gear is very
important besides all the other things that are needed
to make good pictures.
