Hi Robert,

Yes, it's never an either/or argument. But what is usually the
thrust of the argument to which you're responding is that people
tend to confuse excellence of the equipment with th excellence of
their craft. Of course the two are VERY important and related.
But give an F-1 car to ME, and I'll guarantee you that I'll run
it into the wall, in a very high-performance sort of way, because
I can't handle the clutch.

I think to a large degree that the photographer is more important
than the gear. You've done well to point out that gear can make
one better--because the reaction to equipment fetishism is often
too strong--but it's the photographer who must know what he's
doing with that equipment, good or bad.
