There might be problems with cd-rom life, or life of any storage medium.
What makes digital information versatile is the ability to copy it from one
place to another identically, which can not be done in analog by definition.

You can simply copy cd-roms every 15 years, if all you do is store images.
Maybe cumbersome, but is possible.
